On Friday, June 8, 2018, Pastor Sammie L. Hunt, also known as Pastor Samuel L. Hunt, departed this life following a brief illness. He was born on November 23, 1938 to the late Deacon Johnnie and Annie Hunt in Laurel, Newton County, Mississippi.
At an early age, Sammie Hunt joined the Sweet Hope Baptist Church in Laurel. Early in 1960, he played a great part in founding a new church, on the city line, where it was much needed. They named the church St. Luke Baptist Church. It was there, in 1962, Sammie Hunt accepted his call to Ministry, after struggling with it since 1949. Pastor Hunt delivered his initial sermon on January 5, 1963.
Pastor Samuel Hunt served as associate pastor of Welcome Baptist Church in Hartford, Connecticut from 1965 until April 1986. It was during this time, in 1971, that he met his wife, Annie.
