Annie D. Brookins

Annie D. Brookins was born in Wadley, Jefferson County, Georgia to Charlie Rivers and Mattie Lee Boatwright on April 13, 1955.

"Annie D."  was a member of Kingdom Life Fellowship Ministries in Wadley where she served as a member of the kitchen committee and was a former choir member.

She was a graduate of Sandersville Technical College where she earned a certificate in Nursing. She was later employed as a correction officer with the Georgia Department of Corrections, Washington State Prison, Davisboro, Georgia.

"Annie D" was united in holy matrimony to Melvin Brookins for twenty-seven years.

Her family recalls Annie D's hobbies as glass collecting, travelling, shopping, dancing and listening to music. They also remember that she never met a stranger.

"Annie D" was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Rivers and Mattie Boatwright and her siblings, May Gertrude and Elizabeth Boatwright.

On Friday, September 28, 2018, Annie D. Brookins, answered the Master's call at the Augusta University Hospital in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia after a brief illness. 

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Melvin L. Brookins,  Bartow, Georgia; two daughters, Wykeshia Edwards, Augusta, Georgia and Martha Lawson, Jacksonville, Florida; her son, Melvin R. Brookins, Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Susie Sherrod and Rosa Lee Randall, Wadley, Georgia; six brothers, Mathis "June" (Josephine) Gardner, Cartersville, Georgia, Samuel (Betty) Gardner, Rockmart, Georgia, Tom Boatwright, Willie (Carole) Randall and Arthur Boatwright, Wadley, Georgia and Jimmie (Denise) Boatwright, Savannah, Georgia; two grandchildren, De'Shaun L. Thomas, Augusta, Georgia and Symiah Cummings, Jacksonville, Florida; four godchildren, Tinetta Smith and Montel Smith, Irwington, Georgia, Latrice Brown Myers, Statesboro, Georgia and London Underwood, Bartow, Georgia; additional brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Willie Brookins, Edward Brookins, Gladys Hill, Addie Jones and Anna Calhoun all of Bartow, Georgia and Susie Dowdell, Jacksonville, Florida; her special friends, Yvonne Walden, Patricia Cooper, Cathy Polan and Debra Cooper and a host of aunts, uncles, niecies, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends,
