Mother Doris Turner Obituary

Mrs. Doris Harris Turner, daughter of the late Orzie Harris, Sr. and Hattie Williams Harris, was born in Wadley, Jefferson County, Georgia.

She was a product of the Jefferson County, Georgia public school system, where she graduated with honors in 1947. In High School, Doris Harris was an avid  high school basketball player.

Doris was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Isiah Turner. They migrated from Wadley to the Flint, Michigan area and worshipped with the 12th Street Church of God.  Sis. Turner was a active member of the church, serving as a member of the sanctuary choir and kitchen aide committee. Sis. Turner was a lifetime member of the "Women of the Church of God". She served as church secretary and as a deaconess. Deaconess Turner and her husband returned to Wadley, Georgia and reunited with Pineola Church of God. She continued to share her love for Christ with all her associates. At Pineola, she was a deaconess and a  faithful "Mother of the Church", until her health failed.

Mother Turner's family fondly remembers her love for sports, basketball, cooking and baking and of course the enjoyment shared as she demonstrated her skill of shooting marbles. Sis. Turner had a "green thumb" when it came to nurturing and caring for her beautiful flower gardens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Isiah Turner , her parents, Orzie and Hattie Williams Harris and four daughters, Minnie Lorraine Turner, Brenda Gail Roche, Rita Dorene Turner and Janice Elizabeth Turner.

Her memory will forever reside in the hearts of her daughters, Linda (George) Fowler, Flint Michigan and Tonya(Steven) Gerido, Nolensville, Tennessee; five sons, Ronald Turner, Flint, Michigan, Cecil (Carolyn) Turner, Atlanta/Flint, Michigan, Jerome (Priscilla ) Turner, Flint, Michigan, Daryl Turner, Flint, Michigan and Phillip Turner, Atlanta, Georgia; her sisters-in-law,  Geraldine Turner, referred to as her "special sister"  and Betty Turner, both of Flint, Michigan and Mattie Woodard of Miami, Florida. Her special friend, Dorothy Jones, and her "play sister", Nora Russell of Flint., twenty-three grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
